地域紹介 Introduction of the area
男鹿半島独特の海陸のかもしだす風景は絶景で、一見の価値があります。特に、広大な日本海に沈む夕日は雄大な自然を感じさせてくれます。また、年間を通して鯛、黒鯛など新鮮な魚介類が豊富にあり、磯は釣り人で大賑わいです。
部隊の住所は「秋田県男鹿市男鹿中国有地内」ですが、分屯基地名は「加茂分屯基地」です。この名称には次のような由来があります。
終戦間もない１９４５年（昭和２０年）８月２８日、秋田県大館市のアメリカ軍捕虜収容所に、物資投下のために飛行中のアメリカ軍航空機（Ｂ－２９）が、悪天候により本山山頂付近で遭難しました。この救助活動に男鹿半島西岸の「加茂」集落住民があたり、生存者１名を救助しました。
１９５５年（昭和３０年）１２月にアメリカ軍が現在の部隊所在地に移転、展開した際に、１０年前の「加茂」集落住民の行為に謝意を表して「ＣＡＭＰ ＫＡＭＯ」（キャンプ カモ）と命名しました。 航空自衛隊は、１９５８年（昭和３３年）１２月にアメリカ軍から基地の移管を受けましたが、この「ＣＡＭＰ ＫＡＭＯ」（キャンプ カモ）の名称を継承し、「加茂分屯基地」とし現在に至っております。
The unique coastal and inland scenery of the Oga Peninsula is a must-see sight, with breathtaking views. Especially the sunset sinking into the vast Sea of Japan evokes a majestic natural beauty. Additionally, throughout the year, there is an abundance of fresh seafood, such as sea bream, and black sea bream and the rocky shores are bustling with anglers.
The address of the base is “Oga, Oga-shi, Akita Prefecture, Japan” but the name of the base is “The Kamo base.” The name has the following origin. On August 28,1945, shortly after the end of World WarⅡ, US military aircraft(B-29) on a supply drop mission to the American prisoner-of-war camp in Odate, Akita Prefecture, crashed near the summit of Mt.Honzan due to bad weather. The residents of the “Kamo” settlement on the west coast of the Oga Peninsula participated in the rescue operation and saved one survivor.
In December 1955, the US military relocated and deployed to the current base location, and expressed gratitude for the actions of the residents of the “Kamo” settlement ten years prior by naming it “Camp Kamo”. In December 1958, the Japan Self-Defense Force received the transfer of the base from the US military and inherited the name “Camp Kamo”, which was changed to “The Kamo base”, and has been used to this day.
